Entrepreneurship Week with the Salt Lake COC

  • Sl6
As part of the EntrepreneurshipWeek initiative...some BizWorld students were invited to have breakfast with the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. The students were nervous, but they performed their commercials, developed as part of their marketing plan., to the delight of the COC.

BizKids at Haas Business School

Here are some photos of some 'BizKids' who participated in an event at the Haas Business School during Entrepreneurship Week. The students were part of a larger panel that included NFTE students and they spoke on their business experiences. This was just one part of the evening. Earlier, there was a 'Trailblazers' panel which included Venture Capitalist Tim Draper, as well as Richard Caruso,PhD, Founder of The Uncommon Individual and Jerome Engel, ED of the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Haas Business School. It was an informative and lively event and the students really shone!

I was really impressed with how much Lisa got out of the BizWorld sessions. She has been going around acting like she is a little entrepreneur. It is so great for her to have been given this “business sense” at age 11. I am hoping it helps her to think about the possibilities that she has in terms of business. I grew up only knowing about the obvious professions, doctors, lawyers, etc. My daughter is already talking about starting her own business and understand what it means. I am very impressed. When is the next BizWorld opportunity?

Thanks,
Nance

I love BizWorld and will use it year after year! From my vantage point, I can see so many levels of learning- from the first tense moments of getting into groups and moving desks; to the final days of teamwork and financial reconciliation.

Using Level II at the end of Fifth Grade, the studnets were able to use their math skills learned all year to work percentages, decimals, etc. Great Stuff!

The students, parents, school district employees and other volunteers have all loved being a part of this great learning experience.

I have been using BizWorld this year for the first time and I wish I had discovered it sooner! The students have been really fired up to do the program and have learned a lot. I would like to chek out BizWiz but do not have enough time this year. Also, it seems hard- all of the vocabulary and financial stuff. Can anyone tell me about the BizWiz program?

I was intimidated by BizWiz too. But it plays like a game- I loved it and the learning was very concrete. I would suggest reading the course book carefully and taking you time learning the specifics of the program. Once you get started, you will love it and want to do it more than once!

I am not sure how usefult he pre/post tests on this are.
